White Jeans and Off Shoulder Top

It’s now unofficially the start of summer and we are all ready for warmer weather and what better thing to wear with warm weather than an off shoulder top and white jeans.  Off shoulder tops are a great look for the season but they sometimes have a tendency to drift up.  This top stays in place very well unless I raise my arms above shoulder height but let’s be honest, haven’t we all worn an item at one time or another that while wearing it we needed to straighten, adjust, smooth or do something like that to it?

A great thing about this top to me is that it is long; I really like that!  That means it can be worn comfortably over shorts or jeans – be they high rise or not – half tucked or not tucked at all.  I think the tucked look is less casual and a bit sexier.

Until next time ♥

Culottes and Saint Laurent

When I first saw culottes as a “new” trend my first thoughts were I didn’t like them that much the last time around.  So none for me.  Time went on, I saw how they were being styled in stores and by those wearing them so I changed my mind from no way to maybe I should give it a try.  As you can see, I tried and I liked!

Until next time ♥

Pencil skirt, Chambray shirt and Pradas

It was finally a sunny and warm day so I picked this look of a colorful pencil skirt, my favorite (I probably wear it too much it’s that comfortable and versatile) chambray shirt and my peep toe nude Prada heels.  Pencils skirts are another classic piece you should have in your closet as well as a good pair of pumps that can go with everything!  This look also shows that you can wear something from a factory outlet store just fine with something designer.

Manolo or Choo?

Once upon a time in a land far far away…  Actually, back in 1998 a show called Sex and The City premiered and my eyes were opened to all of the amazing fashions out there that I did not know about living in the Midwest.  When SATC first came out I was deep into being a mommy and basically wore what worked and was easy to wash.  But watching this show I had dreams of being like the ladies of this show.  Let me rephrase that, I wanted to wear clothes like them not have sex escapades like them.  I did try a Flirtini once and the drink wasn’t half bad.

When the first SATC movie came out I went to see it with a friend of mine and I fell in love with the shoes that Carrie eventually married Big in.  Those gorgeous blue satin Manolo Blahnik ‘Hangisi’ shoes which now come in a rainbow of colors.  Nobody to this day that I know of calls these shoes by their name, they are always referred to as “Carrie’s wedding shoes.”  We all dreamed of owning these shoes and being romantically swept off our feet – blah blah blah.

Today I went shoe shopping at Saks and I HAD to finally try them on.  I needed to go up a full size in them because of the cut and pitch of the shoe.  I feel as though I have finally fulfilled that fantasy of wearing “those” SATC shoes.  The pair I tried on were navy colored but what the heck!  Close enough.

SATC Manolos

While I was there I noticed they had their pre-sale racks out.  Uh oh!!  And look at what I found on them.  Normally I cannot wear Jimmy Choo shoes because they are just too narrow for me and I don’t have a wide foot.  But there they were and on a 30% off sale too.  Yeah – had to try these on too and they fit just great!  A first for me and this brand.

Sorry if the image is a bit fuzzy, forgot my camera and cell phones were being a bit temperamental.  But I think the pink shoes go quite well with my rolled up boyfriend jeans and my striped pink shirt.  While I could rock these shoes with the jeans I was wearing,  I think I’d wear a silk shirt instead or wear this shirt with some skinny jeans and the shoes.

Pink Jimmys

In the end I came home with a new pair of shoes but which ones do you think I picked?  Which one would you choose?

Until next time ♥

It’s our anniversary

What kind of a wedding are you planning or did you plan? Me? I wanted it to be an old fashioned church wedding with a priest and all of that good stuff with the organist playing our fave tunes.  Let me back that up a bit.  The organist would not play the Beatles music we wanted because it wasn’t church music so we had to go with classical music and the old fashioned wedding march for when I came down the aisle but the rest of it happened a I had hoped for.

As it was a second wedding for both of us, I walked myself down the aisle.  Or as I told some relatives “I’m giving my own damn self away.  Wait! I’m not giving anything away, oh the heck with it!” It was an interesting event as we had relatives and friends come from different parts of the United States along with Canada and England.  We were international and multi cultural!  It was funny when the priest said to our guests “Unless the Lord himself calls or texts, turn your phones off!”  Loved it!  And when we had to sign the church register he had to point out where to sign because I refused to wear my glasses.  I did not have a MAC makeup person come to the hotel to fix my face to have it covered by glasses.  Oh hell no!

At first I was just going to wear a really nice long dress but never could find one I liked.  Then I wanted to wear this tea length dress I liked from a bridal magazine – couldn’t find it either.  I could not believe I was actually buying and pouring through bridal magazines – did not see that one coming!  What to do what to do?  Eventually I stumbled upon a bridal shop that just happened to be having a sample sale.  Lucky me!  Narrowed it down to 3 gowns and finally went with this gorgeous baby.  The Maeve from Pricilla of Boston.  I fell in love with this gown.  It was made of silk taffeta and rustled when I moved in it.  I went from wanting to be grown and sexy to becoming Cinderella, plus it had pockets! POCKETS!!!  I actually stuffed my something old and borrowed into one of the pockets along with my glasses.  I had two head pieces also.  A traditional fingertip length veil for the church and a custom made by a friend fascinator for the reception.

Here’s a funny about the dress.  It was a bit big for me but I fell in love with it and they said their recommended alterations shop would hook me up.  They did a grand job because in the end the dress fit perfectly and the cleaners got the blood out from an alteration mishap.  Blood!  How’d that happen?  The woman working with me was pinning the dress for where it needed to be taken in and stabbed herself in the finger.  Blood on a light ivory dress.  I.freaked.out!  She calmed me down and said not only would my dress fit perfectly but that the cleaners they used would get the stain out.  She was right on both counts.

Our color scheme was lavender/purple and white.  My flowers, the table decorations, the invitations – all in those colors.  Oh, and my shoes!  I found the shoes of my dreams in one of those bride magazines too but they were in pink.  I hunted them down like they owed me money and found that they also came in black and purple and what stores carried them.  Yeah baby!  While doing the gift registry at Macy’s in NYC (I was beginning to morph into a bridezilla by this time and really simple was sent packing!) we went into Barney’s and found the shoes but not in my size.  The sales woman, Solange, ordered my size from their store in Las Vegas and had them sent to my home.

My wedding shoes (mine are violet)  were Christian Louboutin Very Noeud.  I had some close relatives say they would laugh their behinds off if I stumbled and fell in these high heels coming down the aisle.  I walked – I got married – I rocked the night away in these heels never stumbling once while they had kicked their lower heeled shoes off.  HAH!

Planning a wedding can be nerve wracking and can make you want to strangle a few people but in the end hopefully it will all be worth it.  Whatever your style is – you do you with the fierceness!  But please try not to break any banks doing it.  Would I have changed anything about what I wore? Nope! Not a thing.  But I do wonder if after seven years of marriage could I fit into that gown.  Maybe I should just let that one slide and get back to cutting out the carbs and exercising more 😉

♥  Happy Anniversary, honey bunny ♥

Maxi dress and cardigan

The maxi dress; that opposite of the mini.  They can be very comfortable and great for when the weather warms up to wear with sandals or heels…or if you are really lucky, to walk barefoot along the beach in.   It was a nice but windy day so I threw on a cardigan as the steady breeze made it a bit chilly for bare arms and it is a deep v-neck spaghetti strap dress.  This maxi is a jersey knit which means excellent for packing.  I have rolled this dress up a few times to take on get aways and it pops right out of my carry on bag ready to go!

Shift dress with denim jacket

This is an old short sleeved shift dress with pockets (I love all things with pockets! even my wedding dress had pockets) that I wore with a denim jacket.  It is a very comfortable slip over your head style.  At first I was concerned about how short it was but with encouragement from the spouse I wear it with chunky heels, wedges or sandals confidently and comfortably.
